We started our Sunday at the ungodly hour of 7am, to get a headstart on our journey down to the New Forest to visit Jason’s Dad and stepmum. Layers were piled on (since the weather seems to have snapped in the past few days), coffees were collected on the way, and we made it down to the New Forest in record time.

We headed out for a walk not long after arriving, and I mainly spent the time marvelling at the loveliness of having wild ponies right on your doorstep. Teddy too thought it was brilliant- he tried to make friends with the horse in these photos, and couldn’t work out why charging up to the horse’s feet then running away madly wasn’t resulting in the game of chase he so badly wanted ;)

The rest of our day was spent eating, mainly. Michaela always cooks the most incredible food (often two types of meat AND two types of potatoes for one Sunday roast, oh boy!) and this time we ate slow cooked venison casserole, then mini pavlovas, and then a round of cheese and biscuits, and drank some beautiful red wine alongside it all. I can honestly say that I’ve never been so full of food in all my life.

After all that, and before a slow drive home to the sounds of George Ezra, we napped. Because really, what’s a Sunday without a nap on the sofa?

This outfit features pretty much all of the pieces I’ve been wearing most frequently over the past few weeks. An autumn uniform, if you will. Stripes make an appearance in my outfits a good 50% of the time, and these black skinnies from Hobbs are still the best skinnies I’ve ever owned, hands down. But that Olivia Burton beauty? Well, that’s new in my wardrobe. I’ve been wearing the same two watches on rotation for a good few years now- a delicate silver D&G watch I was given by my Godparents for my 21st birthday, and a rather battered old one that once belonged to my Grandad. But then the lovely team behind The Watch Hut got in touch a few weeks ago to see if I might like to try a new watch on for size, and that’s the story of how that gold, white and tan beauty wound up strapped to my wrist! I’m very grateful for it, not least because the face has actual numbers on it which makes it oh so easy to tell time from! I’ve been wearing it pretty much non-stop ever since it arrived (it goes with *everything*!) and now would most definitely consider myself an Olivia Burton disciple.

And now, let’s talk tartan. I’m going to say it now- this is the best scarf I’ve ever owned. It’s giant (basically a picnic blanket masquerading as a scarf), 100 times softer than I expected it to be when I spotted it online, and…it was twenty pounds. TWENTY! It’s so amazing that I just know I’ll be one of approximately fifty billion women and girls wearing it this autumn and winter, but you know what? It’s worth it. There’s nothing better than being able to bury down into a huge, plush scarf on chilly days, and I think this one is going to get a whole lot of airtime this autumn and winter.

That time of year has come around again, where the hunt for the perfect coat for long countryside dog walks in changeable weather must begin. The coat needs to be lightweight, rain-proof, layerable, and if at all possible, stylish enough that you won’t feel the need to sigh and grumble when you put it on each morning.

Enter, the Boden City jacket!

I had a little credit on my Boden account left over from summer, and decided to invest it wisely in a jacket that’ll hopefully take me right through this autumn and maybe (with a little clever layering) winter too. It’s so beautifully fitted, shower-proof, warm, and fellow muddy-dog owners will be happy to learn, totally wipe-cleanable too! I especially love the detailing on the jacket- the elbow patches, corduroy-trimmed cuffs, and POCKETS! So many pockets, all crying out to be filled with iPhones and keys and dog treats and whistles and pairs of gloves that have holes in from a certain dog’s puppy teeth. It comes in navy, khaki, and a deep red colour, but that unfailingly versatile (not to mention beautiful!) khaki colour had me at hello.

A winner all-round!

Cider-with-Rosie-Hobbs

I’ve been on the hunt for the perfect pair of black skinny jeans for a good few years now. I’m kind of a tough customer, in the ol’ black skinnies market ;) I like them to be soft but fitted, with a neatly tapered ankle and a smooth black wash. Bunching round the ankle is a mega no-no in my book. I’m annoyingly right on the cusp of ‘petite’ and ‘regular’ fit jeans (5ft 3” + a 1/2 which means that petite cuts are too short, and regular far too long) jeans are often an awkward fit on me. I’ve tried Topshop, H&M, Zara- and there’s almost always something just a little off about them.

This pair from Hobbs NW3 line, though? They tick every box! They’re a gorgeous mid-rise, are so soft you almost feel as though you’re wearing leggings, and as for ruching and bunching round the ankles? Not a jot! Hurrah! I do have to reverse cuff them by about an inch or so , but they sit so smooth and neat you’d never know. Double hurrah! Let’s talk briefly too about that shirt, because this is maybe the second post in a row where I’ve been wearing it, and I’m not even sorry. I’d intended to buy it online, but then decided to pick it up in store when I was in London the week before last. And I’m so happy I did, because in store it’d been marked down by 50% so was a total steal at 15 pounds! Good old GAP. It’s quickly becoming my new favourite thing to wear.

We’ve never done a ‘his + her’ style post before, but when Jason and I popped out to take these photos of what I’m calling the Holy Grail of black skinny jeans the other evening, my fiancé looked so handsome and sharp I persuaded him to take a turn in front of the lens instead of behind it! Can you even believe that these photos were taken after Jason had done a 9 hour working day, AND had been to the gym in the morning too? I wish I knew what his secret was to looking fresh as a daisy at the end of the day. My appearance begins dishevelling from the moment I shut the front door behind me in the morning…;) (Oh and also, it was a happy day for me when Jason realised he needed glasses. Oh boy. I think he looks pretty handsome in them!)
