after a couple of days of exploring our local town and soaking up the sunshine in lake garda, my ma and i decided to do some exploring! ma convinced me to take a cable car about a zillion metres up the side of a mountain, and although i did protest loudly from start to finish (i’m not the greatest fan of heights!) the view was totally worth it! it was pretty peaceful up there, what with the sound of the bells round the cows’ necks, blue butterflies flitting about and the clear mountain air. you’d probably still have to pay me good money to go in a cable car again though- that on top of two flights this holiday was too much for this scaredy cat ;)
on our last day in italy, we took a paddle boat up to the very north of the lake to visit the town of riva. riva is much larger and more city-like than other towns round the lake, and was so incredibly airy and pristine. the town squares were full of little market stalls, and had i not already purchased some fancy caramel scented soap i’d have bought the sweet vanilla cat soap pictured below in a heartbeat!
all in all, my holiday with my ma was pretty perfect :) our hotel rooms were right opposite one another, and pottering back and forth between the two whilst we got ready each evening made it feel like we were on a week long sleepover! so, so fun :) thanks, beautiful mum, for an absolutely wonderful week. i love you one hell of a lot!
p.s. in case anyone was worried, jason managed to survive the full week whilst i was away ;) he lived on frozen pizzas, fish fingers and oven chips, and yet still managed to lose weight!? how that’s possible,  i will never understand!

i’m home! my ma and i arrived back in england yesterday afternoon and were greeted by a spetacular thunderstorm that chased us round the m25, complete with claps of thunder and ‘proper’ forks of lightening! it was oh so different from the beautiful sunshine we’d been enjoying for the past week in lake garda where (unless i seriously mistranslated the coach driver’s grumblings) there’s been no rain for two whole months! the lake was just gorgeous, and i’d go again in a heartbeat. mum and i stayed in the little town of malcesine, and found it to be by far the prettiest of all the towns we visited. it was about as quintessentially italian as you can imagine- mazes of winding, cobbled streets, colourful buildings, balconies overflowing with flowers and a gelateria on every corner.
oh, that gelato…we pretty much ate it twice a day for a week (don’t worry, my diet starts now!) and the yoghurt flavour was my hands down favourite. in fact, i’m determined to find a recipe for it immediately and to start making use of my mum’s still-in-the-box ice cream machine!

aren’t those just the prettiest soaps? i think they look like tiny cakes!
round two of the photos from beautiful italia to follow tomorrow. stay tuned, folks…:)

for the past week and a bit my lovely mama has been soaking up the sunshine and culture in the south of france, and (even though i’m 21 and shouldn’t be such a baby) i’ve missed her so much! i’m so used to seeing her a couple of times a week and speaking daily in-between times that eight days of not being able to touch base with my mum felt like a very long time indeed.

as always from a trip away, my ma brought my sister, jason and i a whole christmas day’s worth of gifts! honestly, it’s like she turns into santa as soon she leaves uk soil! ;)  maybe my favourite of all the thoughtful and unique little gifts is the sweet cat tin (which has lavender soap inside!), as both jason and i have a bit of a thing for retro packaging. i’ve inherited my grandma’s beautiful old sewing box, and all the pins, needles and buttons are stored in gorgeous little tins and pots from the 1950s and we absolutely adore them. my cat tin is such a lovely addition to our little collection, and i’m planning to keep it on my dressing table to store kirby grips :) thank you mum for a mini christmas day in august!

it was completely and utterly blissful! we went to the lovely island of crete, right in the centre of the mediterranean sea. thank you jason for a wonderful week of swimming, sunbathing, eating five meals a day, silliness, heart to hearts, drawing pictures with suntan lotion, pitta bread and greek salad, freckles, finding stray cats to feed and pet, icecream, snorkelling, reading trashy books, and lots and lots of laughter :)
one of the nicest things was that we felt truely happy to come home at the end of the holiday to our little house by the big pond. we’re taking it as a sign that whilst it’s nice to get away, we’re pretty pleased with what we’ve got going on at home, too.
p.s. thank you mama for taking such good care of our little alfie whilst we were away. sorry that he gave you a panic attack by disappearing for an entire evening, and then eventually coming back with a baby mouse in his mouth. i am sure that it was a gift to show that he’d accepted you ;)
here is our holiday, in photographs…
