i woke up at 5am on the morning of my birthday. i did the same the year before. and the year before that, too. it’s pretty much compulsory to wake up at silly o’clock on your birthday though, right? last year i tried to convince jase to wake up and let me open presents, but he wasn’t having any of it. some people, hey?
anyway, my 22nd birthday has been just peachy :) teddy helped me open my presents at the more *grown up* hour of 11am (just look at his sweet face!) and then we all (apart from ted) headed out for brunch in town. all those morning workouts i did last week were totally working up to today, so i brunched like a pro and ate two full courses. yum.
instead of a proper birthday cake, i asked my ma to make my grandma’s signature ‘birthday/christmas/easter and all the days in between’ treat, rice crispy cakes! they tasted just as though they’d come from the tiny kitchen in my grandma’s cottage, and made my birthday so so special. thank you, ma.

carrie bradshaw once said, ‘there are very few things this new yorker loves as much as sunday brunch. you can sleep until noon and still get eggs anywhere in the city, and alcohol is often included with the meal.’

well miss bradshaw, i couldn’t agree more. my sunday brunch with my mum and sister may not have included alcohol, but it was delightfully long, lazy, and oh so civilised :) i can’t think of a nicer way to spend a few precious weekend hours than catching up with two of my favourite people over coffee, eggs benedict, croissants and strawberry milkshakes. we’ve decided to make it our little family ritual, and aside from the damage it’ll do to my waistline, i couldn’t be more pleased!
