Since we’ve had two Valentine’s Days already during the course of this little blog’s lifetime, you’ll have come to know by now that Jason and I don’t really go in for V-day in a big way. We’ve always tended to just buy each other a little card, and Jason usually picks me up some flowers (daffodils or hyacinths are my favourite at this time of year!), and we tend to treat ourselves to some wine and fancy (read: stinky) cheese and have a cosy evening in. Even though Valentine’s Day is totally made up and can be cliche and all that, there is something undeniably lovely about setting aside a random day in an otherwise pretty grey and uninteresting month (for us, at least!) and dedicating it to love and thoughtfulness. And since I’ve become a bit of a sucker for all things sentimental over the past year, we’re going in for the love-stuff a little more than usual this Valentine’s Day!
Instead of Jason treating me to a bunch or two of flowers that’ll last a week or two at best, this year, we thought it’d be fun to buy each other (or really, ourselves!), some beautiful new plants to put around the house and watch grow throughout the coming year. And since Jason’s taking full and complete ownership, they really will grow rather than shrivel and die like they would if I took charge of their care ;) We’ve got a new maidenhair fern to replace the one I neglected so badly last year, and a selection of beautiful succulents to adorn window ledges and shelves and side tables all over the house.
By far my favourite part of our Valentine’s gift giving for this year though, is the beautiful personalised wrapping paper pictured above. Wrap.me, the genius company behind the wrapping paper, launched in late 2014, and enables you to create a roll of totally personalised paper using a section of up to 30 of your favourite photos. They reached out to me recently to ask if I’d like to trial and review their service, and since photos are something of an obsession (maybe the biggest understatement ever?), I was all for the idea!
I had the best fun sifting back through the 1000s of photographs on my hard drive, and selecting the ones that I felt best encapsulated the year Jason and I have had together. And, not only does it make the sweetest wrapping paper you ever did see, but the photos can be cut up and framed in singles or blocks of prints! I think it’d make such a lovely idea for birthdays, Christmas gifts, and all those other ‘just because’ presents that’s always the most fun to give. I’ll most definitely be ordering more next time a birthday comes around!
What do you think- isn’t personalised wrapping paper such a lovely idea? And I’m intrigued to know- do you go all out for Valentine’s Day with gifts and hearts and flowers, or keep things simple? :) Do have a browse of the Pinterest board below, to see how a few other wonderful bloggers have put together their wrapping paper!
