10 things that’ve made me happy this week!

London-Eye

This week can be summarised by the following two words: SPIDERS. EVERYWHERE. I thought autumn was supposed to be the time at which they all head for the nearest open window and get comfy in our spare bedrooms, not in the height of summer? I’m finding the horrid things everywhere in our house these days, and it’s giving me the heeby jeebies. I even found a teeny tiny money spider on the tip of my nose yesterday, when I was at my friend’s house. I don’t know what’s up. Tell me it’s not just my house? This week’s been a good one, aside from my spider phobia being triggered 24/7. This weekend we’re planning to have a BBQ (again, we’re becoming those annoying people who have one every weekend…) this time with my Mum and Godparents, and also celebrate Jason’s brother Joe’s birthday on Saturday- his first since he became a Dad to baby Eddie! We’re looking forward to it! In the meantime, here’s a little list of what’s made me most happy this week…

1. The relief of spotting the fourth little duckling scoot on over to join its Ma and brothers and sisters, after we’ve had a mini panic that it’s been stolen by one of the neighbourhood cats! We scared off a fox from getting too close to them all the other night, too. It’s a tough ol’ job you know, being Protectors Of The Ducklings! ;)

2. The chocolate peanut butter fudge bite I sampled at Selfridges on Wednesday. It was one of those mouthfuls of food where you think, whilst eating it, ‘I don’t want this to be over yet’. Oh boy. Seriously amazing!

3. Wednesday evening in London. I took a cab over the river from the Houses of Parliament at sunset, and it was just beautiful.

4. Freckles on the backs of my hands. They’re the sign that it really is summer!

5. Golden hour sunlight. I miss it so much in winter, so am savouring every drop we’re getting right now!

6. Emily’s Fruit Crisps! I’ve been sampling them all this week, and they’re really really delicious! Perfect summer snacking.

7. The brief, two minute breakfast Jason and I ate together whilst perched on the edge of our bed yesterday morning. I brought up bowls of yoghurt + fruit + granola, and we ate them quickly together before getting on with our morning routines. It was a nice pause, in an otherwise hectic week.

8. Lunches of thickly sliced vine tomatoes on rye bread, with plenty of salt and basil. So tasty, I start thinking about eating it at around 11am ;)

9. Feeling of confidence, and empowerment.

10. Using my married initials for the first time! I had a little keychain monogrammed at an event this week, and decided to have my married initials put on it instead of my current ones. Cheeky really, but it made me so excited!

Three posts I’ve loved reading this week :: Tania’s healthy blueberry pancake recipe || Erin’s five things || + Sonia’s beautifully simple post.

There’s nothing annoying about BBQ’s! Keep them coming I say :) It sounds like a great week apart from all the spiders. Over here in Malta it’s cockroaches you have to look out for *shudder*

Fantastic reasons to be happy. London in the sunshine or at sunset really is a magical thing!
I’ve been happy all week long about just being on school holidays and going at my own pace. Not having to do any work for school has been wonderful although I should start to dip into it now rather than live it until the last week in August! Enjoy your barbecue! x

You are right about the spiders Rosie, our house is slowly turning into Spiderman’s lair. I was reading in bed last night when I saw one taking a casual stroll on the blanket, a few inches from my arm. Major panic ensued but thankfully The Boy took it outside and I was able to get into bed again. I dread to think what autumn will be like.
This week, we’ve been having a lot of Caprese salads because our basil is just thriving. It makes me happy!

I’ve always noticed that spiders come inside more around summer time! I have such a deep fear of them that panic attacks are frequent – not so much fun! I did read somewhere just to give them a little name and story… “like oh, Gerald is way too hot outside he’s just camping on the ceiling to cool down…”

It doesn’t usually work when they are the size of my hand! ;)

Tomatoes on bread with a drizzle of olive oil, a sprinkle of sea salt and maybe a slither of Manchego is the BEST lunch! Pure summer on a plate :) xx

The spiders! Oh, the spiders! They are terrifying me from morning ’till night at the moment. Hiding under blankets, in shoes, dangling from ceilings so I walk in to them! I don’t know where they are all coming from, but I feel like our house has been overrun with them! I can’t relax!

Yeah, what is it with all the spiders at the moment?! Our garden is full of spider webs – I keep walking through them because I don’t see them, and I feel so bad! x x

For us it’s the fruit flies rather than the spiders, just as annoying but not a creepy. The golden hour sunlight is lovely in the summer and I’m actually around to enjoy it too rather than being stuck at work.

I had a BBQ with some friends yesterday which was lovely. I really do think BBQs are one of the best things about summer! And I wish I got freckles!

I’m not typically a big fan of tomatoes, but salted ones on rye bread with basil sounds amazing! I gotta try that sometime.

I get very emotional about ducklings. A few years back, there was that viral video of all the ducklings being blown about by the wind, and another with ducklings crossing a motorway… I am not ashamed to admit that I cried through both of them. So duckling family reunion is definitely a happy hap.

I haven’t seen many spiders, but the other day I spotted an ant on my drink bottle just as I was about to take a sip, and got such a fright that I spilt water everywhere!!! Ants aren’t even scary, I think I was just so surprised!

Do you know what’s trying to take over our house – flies! I hate them! You leave the backdoor open for just a few minutes and then you can never get rid of the blighters!

So of the precious moments are those snatched ones.

I totally agree, spiders are everywhere and they scare me witless. No matter the size, I scream. My boyfriend tries to be subtle and get them away from me, but I always realise and run a mile.

Omg growing up in the country, I was forever trying to save ducklings/chicks etc from the dogs and foxes!
