Let me introduce you to…Sunny Sweet Pea!

Jenny’s blog is a straight up good one. She’s a girl after my own heart (a true tea/book/countryside/spaniel lover!), and shares the most beautiful photographs and stories on her blog. Sunny Sweet Pea has a wonderfully friendly, community-like feel to it, and reading through Jenny’s posts always feels like I’m catching up with a good friend as opposed to someone I’m yet to meet in real life. Also, she has the most beautiful springer spaniel I’ve ever seen! So if I haven’t given you enough great reasons to go and check out Sunny Sweet Pea, there’s the clincher! Today Jenny’s sharing some answers to a few of my very nosiest questions, so get ready to add a darling new blog to your reading list!

1. What inspired you to begin blogging, and how did you come up with the name ‘Sunny Sweet Pea’? :)
I started a blog way back in 2008. I was unemployed and expect slightly bored. I started blogging about my job hunt and the volunteering I was doing. In reflection, that sounds awfully dull. It didn’t take long before I wanted to blog about all sorts of things and Sunny Sweet Pea was born. I guess it’s always been a lifestyle blog, but I’m not sure the catagory existed back then! My blog has turned into a place for me to share my memories, take notes on my life and just a space for me to write and publish my photographs.

The name doesn’t have a very exciting story. I actually followed a You Tuber called Paper Lillies and through her YouTube channel discovered this magical thing called blogging! I wanted a similarly pretty name and Sunny Sweet Pea was born. Nothing more meaningful than that sadly.

2. Has your blog evolved and changed much since you began writing it? Have you found your content and focus have changed much over the past few years, or have they stayed pretty consistent?
So much. When I first started I really didn’t write about anything very exciting. Mainly book reviews, film reviews and random memes. Not even sure if those exist any more. I guess they’re called tag posts now. Photos were taken on my phone or a rubbish old camera and my writing was a bit rambly and random. I hope, as my blog has grown, I’ve refined my writing style and improved my eye for a good photograph.

3. What three words would you use to sum up Sunny Sweet Pea?
Thoughtful, true and random.

4. Where do you draw the most inspiration from? Do you ever suffer from writer’s block, or do you find it easy to keep coming up with fresh ideas for your lovely blog?
Writer’s block, very much so. I’ve been known to go months without posting. But this last year has been great for me. I keep a blog organiser and when I have an idea I write it down. I carry my camera around with my everywhere. It’s amazing the inspiration you can find in the little things or a random photograph. And as your blog grows so do the opportunities you get, which naturally provide content. I have just spent the weekend with Charlotte which I’m bound to squeeze a few posts out of :P

5. Tell us a little about your family! There’s you, and Ben, and little Pip right? How long have you and Ben been together? And when did Miss Pip join the party? :)
Ben and I have been together for nearly 9 years. Saying that out loud makes me feel rather old. We met at university (giving away my age) and have grown up together. Pip completes our little family and I wouldn’t change it for the world. We’re like the three musketeers, wherever we go Pip goes. Pip is about 18 months now and just as naughty as ever. But she’s gorgeous and super affectionate. Genuinely can’t imagine her not being in our lives now.

6. What’re the best things about living in Norfolk? Any must-see sights or secret spots you might share with us?
It took me a long time to love Norfolk. I’m from South Wales and until this last year I longed to live back home. I missed the hills and the beach on my doorstep. It’s easy to forget that when I lived there I constantly moaned about it. But I’ve started to appreciate the wide open landscape, the amazing sunsets, sandy beaches (just a short drive away) and the quaint Norfolk villages. Norwich is a beautiful city and perfect for a tea room lover like me. The seaside towns are also rather lovely. A favourite of mine being Sheringham. Norfolk ice cream and pastel coloured beach huts. Perfection.

7. How is Christmas celebrated in your house? :) Do you and Ben stay home, or head out to your families for Christmas day? Any favourite SunnySweetPea-family festive traditions?
We don’t have a conventional Christmas. Until this year Ben worked offshore and was rarely home for Christmas. This year he is home but has to be in the office in between the bank holidays. So I will be heading to Wales with Pip to spend the holiday with my Mum, who will be on her own otherwise. I expect our Christmas day will be spent eating, drinking and spelling rude words out during Scrabble. Mum, Pip and I are also going on the Santa Express at the steam railway on Christmas Eve. A perfect festive tradition of ours.

8.And lastly, let’s have a mini game of desert island discs! So, if you were stranded on a desert island, what would you bring with you? You can choose 4 albums/CDs, 2 books, and one luxury item! (I really love this game, and am intrigued to hear your answers!)
Ooo I like these.

Ray LaMontagne – Trouble
The Staves – Dead, Born & Grown
Gotye – Making Mirrors
Thirty Seconds to Mars – A Beautiful Lie

The Book Thief – Markus Zusak
This I Know: Notes on Unravelling the Heart – Susannah Conway

Luxury item
Pip? I’m sure she counts :P
