I went out to the hedgerows near our house on Friday evening, and picked a handful or so of ripe blackberries. Someone had got there before me and gathered most of the prime berries from the branches (told you I’m always a little late!) but I still managed to gather enough for a teeny, two person blackberry and apple crumble.

I’d like to have a go at making jam this winter for the first time, so if you fancy hitting me up with your favourite jam recipes I’d be forever grateful! :)

Now, how was your weekend? This was the first weekend in weeks that we’ve actually been at home for the vast majority of the time (August was full of weekends away!), yet somehow I feel more tired than ever. We’ve declared that next weekend will be a duvet weekend, and that we won’t be leaving the house at.all. We’re going to bring our duvet downstairs, and get our teeth into a new box set tv series. Right now, it’s a toss up between Orange is the New Black, and Breaking Bad. I’m kind of already on the countdown to next Friday evening…

Blackberries are such an easy fruit to make jam with as they are already high in pectin so you won’t need to add anymore :) Just add equal weights of blackberries with sugar and a squeezae of lemon and simmer until the sugar has dissolved, then bring to a rapid rolling boil until the jam has reached setting point, and pot into sterilised jars :) I love making jam, especially with berries as it is just so easy! x

A duvet weekend sounds amazing. Looking out the window on a day like today makes it sound even more appealing. Hope you guys have a lovely cosy weekend together! My boyfriend has been pestering me to get into breaking bad, so I’d love to hear what you think if that’s the one you choose!

Before I forget to mention…I love the slightly offset diagonal collage–very eye-catching!

I must admit that blackberries aren’t my favourite. Aside from the evil thorns on their bushes, they have massive pips and since I struggle with raspberry pips, the huge blackberry ones are a total deal-breaker. I usually end up making a smooth purée and using it as a sauce on ice-cream or in a panna cotta. I’m fussy, I know.

Our weekend was busy, yet again. We did some gardening, had coffee with BIL, I baked up a storm, and then on Sunday we drove to the Forest of Dean to meet some of Dave’s relatives for a huge family picnic. Next weekend isn’t going to be any quieter, either!!

I also have a bit bag of brambles and not sure what to do with them! I was hoping this would be a recipe post, make sure to share it when you find the right one. :)

Breaking Bad and Orange is the New Black are two of my favourites, sounds like a productive weekend planned!

Your photos are so fun and I love blackberries. Duvet weekends are my favourite. I would say watch Orange Is The New Black because it’s only 13 episodes, and I know a bunch of people who got through it within a few days, myself included. Breaking Bad is on my list to start next though!

Hope you enjoyed your crumble! My mom makes great jam, I’ll try to get a recipe while I’m home for you. I watched Orange is the new black all in one week, it’s very witty! I haven’t started breaking bad yet, but I’ve heard good things x

I love how you already have your weekend planned!! And sounds like a good plan to me!

Oh, those blackberries look so good and fresh (even if you didn’t get as many as you wanted) and I’m sure the crumble cake was delicious!

    Happy Monday!

So awesome! I really wish I had blackberries to pick near me! And blackberry jam seems like the perfect way to use them :)

I say watch orange is the new black first – you could easily watch it all in one weekend. Breaking bad is amazing but I definitely wanted to watch oitnb in one sitting.

A lazy duvet weekend sounds ideal right about now – I feel like I’ve been constantly on the move lately! Homemade jam is the best – enjoy! xx

I’m so jealous of your blackberries! I tried to go find some last weekend but all the hedges that used to be there were cut down! The crumble sounds amazing :)

Orange is the new black is hilarious, like a cross between Pridon Break and Mean Girls. I finished the first season in about 2 weeks so would DEFINITELY recommend it!

I love blackberry picking! When I was a child we had hedgerows in our back garden, but now I live in a city and I haven’t seen a single blackberry this year! Very jealous of yours xx

I LOVE fresh berries! That’s one thing I miss about living in Oregon, we just don’t have wild blackberries in Phoenix. Pretty photos!

    Hi Rosie,

I found your blog on bloglovin the other day – searching for fellow bloggers in the UK. I was captured by the beautiful, delicious looking blackberries. So I thought I’d say Hi. Oh and vote for Breaking Bad ;) The look of the show might seem a bit depressing (lots of brown and grey-ish colours), but then it is just SO good. My boyfriend and I are addicted and have spent many duvet days with it.

    Wish you a good weekend,
    Nadine
