To do list-ing.

08.08

There must be something in the air at the moment, because I’ve become a bit obsessed with self-improvement. I just can’t keep from setting myself challenges, making resolutions, and wanting to give new things a try. I thought January was supposed to be the time for new beginnings, not late Summer? Anyway, I guess it’s no bad thing! Here’s what’s on my to do list of the next few weeks…

Cookie-and-Kate ‘To make’
This kale, edamame and avocado salad. I’ve been trying not to eat bread at lunchtimes since it always makes me so lethargic in the afternoons, so I’m going to give this salad a try and hope that it’s a far more energising lunch.

‘To try again’
I’m going to have another go at making ice cream this month, so am on the hunt for good recipes. First on my list is yoghurt gelato, after Mum and I became totally addicted to it in Italy last summer.

Cider-with-Rosie-yoga ‘To try’
Not this yoga pose exactly, but Jason and I have decided to have a go at Pilates! Well actually, I decided that Jason and I should have a go at Pilates which is pretty much the same thing, right? Anyway, I’m excited! We’re signing up for a local class on either Tuesday or Thursday evenings. Things are about to get reeeeeaaaal competitive…;)

‘To grow’
A basil plant! Since my other herbs are still going strong (over a month and a half now, say whaaaaa’?!) I’ve decided to try my hand at growing basil. I’ve always had big trouble growing basil in the past, but reckon this time I might be able to keep it alive past day three of its windowsill-life.

Smitten-kitchen-slaw ‘To…pickle?’
Would you just *look* at this pickled slaw, by my forever-foodie-crush Deb? Doesn’t it look so amazing? Last summer was the summer of my pickled cucumber obsession (I ate so many it hurt my stomach, and Jason had to start hiding the jar. No joke) and I reckon now’s a good time to take things to the next, very vinegary level. I’m going to buy a bumper crop of vegetables later on today, and start a-shreddin’ and a-picklin’.

Ombre-nails ‘To paint’
These ombre nails have stolen my heart, and I can’t stop thinking about giving it a go myself. I think it’s going to be the sort trend that looks wonderful on tall, elegant New York women and makes me look even more like a 14 year old, but hey! It’s too pretty to pass up!

Braided-bun ‘To wear’
I love the deep side parting of this hairstyle, and the thick braided bun. I think I’d like to wear it when we go to a wedding later on this month.

Not doing resolutions and pretending to do self improvement in January, when everyone does them and when it just feels like you should do them is a good sign that you mean them more I think :)

I think this is such a cute idea for a post! Very inspiring ;)

In my last year at uni, I actually chose a module all about self improvement (it was called Advanced Interpersonal Skills), in which in the lectures we learnt about personality etc (i.e. how to understand yourself and others better), our coursework was to write a diary for 6 months (which would then be handed in, which was pretty scary) along with setting ourselves 3 goals (based on what we identified in the diary in the first couple of weeks). You could pick whatever you want, and this being part of my grade, meant that i tried harder! I think having kept a diary actually really helped.

Good luck with all yours :) I haven’t done much Pilates, but Yoga is so much fun, I love playing around in the garden (I do realise this makes me sound like a little child, but come on headstand is pretty cool!)

I started growing basil this summer too, along with chives and mint, which have both flourished. The basil, however, has drooped and shrivelled despite me giving it far more attention! When you conquer the art of making it live past 3 days, please give me a shout!

I think it’s never too late to make resolutions, and always find I’m far more inspired in the summer to do new things than in January! I do pilates it’s a lot of fun and I’ve really noticed a difference since starting!

I always find myself getting angsty for change and new starts whenever I feel the seasons beginning to turn over- maybe that’s what it is with you? Some of these look fantastic, especially that slaw! Bring on the vinegar

Those nails are AMAZING! I WANT….I WANT BADLLLLY!
Self-improvement kicks always seem to come for me at the most unexpected times. The important thing is to take advantage of them and use that impulse to make changes. I use to do Pilates, it’s very hard! Your abs will be killer though ♥

Maybe it’s that ‘back to school’ feeling as September is coming up. I’ve been setting new goals too. Must be something in the air.
