Monday resolutions! // Week four…

Cider-with-Rosie-breakfast

I’ve been finding myself…’slipping’ recently. My morning routine has got slacker, I’m finding it harder to motivate myself to workout every day, and I keep ending up makeupless and in scruffy dog walking clothes at 5 in the afternoon. Of course, being makeupless and wearing slobby clothing is just fine and dandy, it’s just that they have such a detrimental affect on my mood, productivity, and even my energy levels.

Fellow work-from-home-ers, have you been through this phase too? Where the temptation to not bother wearing decent clothes or makeup lures you in, but eventually just ends up leaving you feeling…blah?

So this week my resolution is to make my work mornings more organised and structured, in order to feel better and get more from my working days. I’m going to set my alarm for 8am each day, be out the door taking Ted for a walk no later than 9.30am, workout as soon as I get home, and then shower and put on some presentable-ish clothes and makeup before getting started on my day’s work.

I’m excited for this resolution! I think it’ll be a harder challenge than any of the others so far, but if I manage it, it’ll make the biggest difference to my mood and wellbeing.

Are you starting out this week with a resolution of your own? :)

So as we know, I don’t work from home, but I can second this feeling. Over the last week or so I’ve been slipping; not getting up early and ending up sitting on the sofa, also make up-less.

I don’t know what to suggest….maybe something fresh that makes you want to get out of bed? It’s hard, a new series or something? Besides that, my Stepdad always used to get dressed in his “office” clothes even though he worked from home….but sounds like you already tried that!

Good luck with this resolution Rosie, hopefully see you soon! x

I’m exactly the same! Until I’ve had a shower and changed out of my pyjamas I just cannot concentrate at all. But it’s difficult to have self discipline when it’s just you in the house, I find! x

I work from home sometimes too, like a few days a week – and I strictly do 8.30am to 5pm. I have to, otherwise if I start too late in the day, I end up working later into the evenings, and there’s no work/life balance, even if I am at home anyway.

What do you do from home? :)

ughh I completely understand! I’m the same, however since I’ve not had to put makeup on as much, my skin has gotten loads better! haha. I do try to make sure I put on normal clothes and not loungewear as I find I’m more productive, and stay to a strict schedule. It’s a lot harder when the boy works from home too because then I just want to go downstairs and talk to him every ten minutes.

I really miss working from home, as much of an amazing opportunity as freelancing in-house is. I used to get up at be ready to start my day for 8:30am, having a ‘real’ breakfast and doing a workout at around 9:30am. Then I’d whip through my emails, make a list of outstanding jobs and tasks, start on that before going out for lunch. Going out for lunch always helps me stay on track! Then I work through my list and wind back down for the day! xx

I try to make a clear plan for when I’m going to have my shower. So, if I want to walk the dog after doing a few hours’ work, perhaps to get the sunshine in the day if it’s raining to start with, or because I’ve got an early Skype call or whatever, I make a 1pm shower an unmovable thing. But the best is to get straight in the shower after I get the husband and child out the door. Shower, dry hair, quick bit of moisturiser, then clock on and get the day going. I only need ten minutes at some point to take my rollers out and pop some slap on, so that doesn’t hold me up.

I usually hang on for breakfast until 10 or 11 if I can, because then it’s a nice moment to have a half hour break, and I’ve already got a bit of work done and some stuff ticked off the list…

I do wear loungewear all bloody day, though. What else do we work from home for?!

Hope you find the balance. I do agree that at the very least being CLEAN is essential for a decent day!

Funny, I was just thinking this an hour ago! My plan for today was to work really productively, but because I didn’t structure my day or actually put on normal clothes I now feel super lazy and ‘blah’. Your routine sounds good though, a short walk can kickstart your energy levels…I might try that! x

I don’t work from home, but work in an office with a pretty relaxed dress code. Some people turn up in jeans and a t-shirt, but I find that if I’m wearing a smart dress or a blazer I am FAR more productive than I would be in jeans and a t-shirt- or worse, the leggings one girl wears in. I think this sounds like a great resolution though- I’m sure it’ll really help! :) xx

I love that resolution and can totally relate! I often find myself settling for my comfy clothes on the daily, and with absolute certainty that results in me being less productive throughout the day. My best mornings begin walking the pup followed with a quick pilates routine. I’ve also learned that if I set a goal to prepare lunch, I will be more motivated to get my errands done early (like grocery shopping!) and can utilize my afternoons more effectively for writing and such :)!

Good luck with your resolutions Rosie!!
I’m just the same right now – my routine has slipped and I do zero exercise, and my body is really showing it. I need to start eating a little healthier and doing some more exercise – I think you’ve just given me the kick up the bum I need!
I don’t actually wear makeup or put on ‘nice’ clothes unless I’m leaving the house and even then I wont always wear makeup. Sometimes I just feel like it’s an extra chore – shopping and having a nice conversation with someone new without a mask of makeup does my self-esteem the world of good!

I always find my self-esteem sky rockets if I dress up and make an effort with my hair and make-up. Good luck with your resolution, I’m sure you’ll get it done!:)

Getting out of the blah mode is so tricky. I just started work after college and have yet to settle into a productive/healthy routine.

I’m so happy I came across your blog. It is so fun and inspiring. I can’t wait to read more of it!

It is really hard to get motivated when working from home. I totally recommend getting in the shower as early as possible – I find it’s the best way to get myself productive in the mornings. That and a few cups of tea!

Good luck! Getting out of a ‘blah’ phase is definitely work but in the end, it is worth it. Maybe you can invest in some decent looking yet still comfortable home dresses or lounge wear for lazy days. It’s still low key and comfy but looks better therefor makes you feel better. xxx
