Bastille, and octopuses.

31.07

On Monday morning, I sat down with my notebook to write a to do list for the day ahead. I was reading over my list from Friday to see if there was anything I still needed to do, and I saw that in the margin of the page I’d written the word ‘OCTOPUS’ in big capital letters, and underlined it.

Yup, octopus. Underlined. Octopus was obviously a very important thought on Friday. Why? I hadn’t the foggiest idea.

I shared this on Twitter, and it was Jason who managed to wrap things up for me. He messaged me saying ‘It doesn’t have anything to do with Bastille, does it?’. Ah, yes. Yes it did. Turns out, I’d written it as a reminder to myself to share the following fact on here….

The other day, Jason convinced me that the chorus line in the Bastille song ‘Pompeii’ was ‘How am I gonna be an octopus about this…’ I believed him so completely that a week or so later when I was happily singing the octopus version of the song, Jase took pity and told me that he’d been having me on. How do you make a band as cool as Bastille completely and utterly dorky? Insert the name of a sea creature into their lyrics.

Anyway, I just can’t get enough of Bastille at the moment. Flaws is my favourite song. Have a listen!

p.s. Have I just ruined Pompeii for you? I’m sorry. Please take it up with my other half…;)

I love misheard song lyrics!! My friend and I used to collect them, our favourite being from ‘Sal Paradise’ by Futures which was actually “And I will show you the world, if you just take me by the hand and talk about our souls.” You can maybe imagine what we thought those last two words were…

Other notable mentions: My little sister thinking “I can change, I can change, I can change, I can change” in ‘Bittersweet Symphony’ was “jean jacket, jean jacket, jean jacket.” and the Macy Gray classic, ‘I Try’, “I wear goggles when you are not here.”

Haha! This is brilliant! I literally cannot get enough of Bastille at the moment, their album is on repeat. I blame Dan’s dreamy voice (and fantastic songs). He’s such a beautiful talented boy – sigh!

Haha that is hilarious! Also, applause to you for making a to-do list before and after the weekend and actually matching them up to see if you’ve done it all! Whenever I make one, there’s always one tiny thing that just stays on there for weeks xx

Haha. I love this story. Sounds like something that would happen to me. Once a classmate started telling me about his childhood and where he grew and his parents, and I totally believed him. A couple of days later, he explained that the story had not, in fact, been his childhood. Instead it was the plot of the movie, Footloose!

    Best,

Bastille are absolutely amazing. I’ve been a fan for around two years, and I’m so happy that people are starting to realise how great they are. If you get the chance to see them live, definitely do it. One of the best performances I’ve seen even after 160 shows! P.s I’ll almost definitely be singing octopus now!

I think it’s Just Bastille songs because in ‘These streets’ I prefer to hear ‘even if we won’t admit it to ourselves we’ll walk along these streets and think of little…elves’ instead of ‘else’ haha. Have fun trying not to hear that one too now! :P x
