Cider-with-Rosie-Planting-mint-and-thyme-8

I bought some herbs on a whim the other day, in an effort to become a) at least a little green-fingered, and b) more self-sufficient in the kitchen. I’ve killed every living plant we’ve ever had in this house (orchids, poinsettias, basil plants- you name it, I’ve drowned it) so I’m doing my research this time to try and keep these ones alive longer than two weeks. There are plenty of stones in the bottom of the pots to keep the roots from sitting in water, and I’ve pruned both plants down quite harshly to encourage new growth. The mint offcuts are now sat in a small jug in the kitchen waiting to be added to Pimms when we’re feeling flash, and water when we’re not, & the thyme cuttings have been tucked away in our freezer for pasta sauces and soups.  Continue reading

1. A trip to London on Wednesday evening. The journey wasn’t the best (train was rammed with  people coming home from Royal Ascot, so I stood shoulder to shoulder with men in top hats the entire way) and the weather was off the charts humid, but there’s something special about that city that beats all the rubbish stuff hands down. I want to start going up there more frequently, because month long stints between trips is just too long.

2. Fish tacos, made from this recipe. Delicious!

3. Watching Ted dunk his face over and over again in a bowl of water in the garden. He likes to blow bubbles from his nose under the water. I’m telling you, he’s a fish…

4. Keeping a tidy house. I’ve been trying so hard recently to be tidier (I am seriously so messy, it looks like a bomb’s gone off in every room I’ve been in) and it really is so nice to not live with horrendous clutter all the time. I even tidied up the tea towel cupboard, and though it’s probably the nerdiest thing to admit, it’s made me mega happy!

5. Painting my nails. I tried to give them a rest this week, but then Essie Fiji broke my resolve.

6. Jason’s thoughtfulness. Sometimes I marvel at how truly thoughtful and considerate he is. Way more than I am. I’m learning from him.

7. Popping into university to collect essay papers, and knowing I never have to do another class there again. It’s a good feeling :)

8. Reading Jessica’s beautiful blog. I want to live in her food-world.

9. Jason wearing his stubble longer these days. I’ve finally convinced him to keep it longer, and so my life is pretty much now complete! ;)

10. Making plans to see my cousins in a couple of week’s time! We’re going to be bbq-ing, drinking lots of Pimms, and I’ll trying out hairstyles on Emily for her wedding! It’ll basically be a re-run of the weekend we had a month or so ago, and I’m mega excited! :)

What’s made you happy this week?

Sunset-over-countryside

Jason and I decided to venture into new territory on our evening walk the other night, and took Ted for a walk in some fields in the next village along from ours. The horses who live there are huge, and were pretty intrigued by Ted. We deliberately skirted round the outside of the field so as not to bother them, but they trotted right on over to say hey. I think my heart almost fell out of my mouth when Ted spooked and ran away, and the larger of the two started to run after him! They were ever so gentle though, and the most friendly and inquisitive one even leant down to give Teddy a little sniff. It was the sweetest thing :)

Also, check out that sky! It was glorious. Like a proper take-your-breath-away kind of evening.

Horse-in-field

You know, I’ve been really, really enjoying writing my blog recently. I love it always (of course!) but for the past couple of weeks the words have just been flowing so easily in a way they haven’t before. I used to always feel the need to check back through my writing and amend it over and over again, to read it through to Jason and see what he thought, and even to compare my writing style with that of other bloggers I admire. But that seems to have all dissipated over the past few weeks.

Is this what real writers call ‘finding your voice’?

I don’t know, but it’s pretty nice :)

How beautiful is this post by Kelsey? Gorgeous words, gorgeous photographs.

I love Katt Frank’s illustrations. Reckon they’d made lovely prints to hang in the kitchen.

Isn’t there something really satisfying about the tidiness of this photograph? It reminds me of this awesome photo series.

delicate gold necklace.

All you ever needed to know about peonies.

This made me laugh!

Love these yellow shoes.

I don’t know if this is true, but I sort of don’t care. It’s the sweetest thing.

Such a gorgeous blouse.

I can’t wait to make this Thai soup. It sounds so crazy delicious.

Spring vegetable and goat’s cheese dip.

A super chic Stockholm apartment.

p.s. Some things you might’ve missed from round these parts…
- A recipe for chicken teriyaki.
- Pink nail polish.
- Revealing descriptions of first, middle and last borns!
