we’re having the loveliest bank holiday weekend, so far. hasn’t the sunshine been glorious? i’m so glad it’s been warm, because the cold and rain last week were just downright depressing.

we’ve spent the last couple of days pottering about at home, broken up with trips to the shops for fresh flowers, sticks of french bread, and strawberries to go in our pimms. i spent a few happy hours reading through izy’s blog (good lord that girl is a gif-making pro!) and am currently struggling to decide which of her recipes i want to try first. think these nutella and salted caramel cookies might be top of the list…

oh, and speaking of food, i started out my weekend with a stack of six pancakes. carb overload? why not!

today, we’re off to the surrey county fair! i’m most excited to see the horse jumping, and jason’s most excited to watch the dog agility competitions. we’re both excited to eat lots of cheese and cake too, of course…

how are you spending your bank holiday weekend? :)

1. seeing a deer in the woods! i was so excited, i got goosebumps all over. anyone else get totally overexcited when they come across wildlife whilst out walking? i just wish teddy hadn’t gone charging through the undergrowth towards it and scared it away, because it was so peaceful to stand there watching it moseying about. made my day!

2. baking banana bread with overripe bananas. using up ingredients before they go off makes me feel so ‘make do and mend’! ;)

3. watching old episodes of the inbetweeners. i’d forgotten how hilarious it is!

4. discovering new blogs. marshalls abroad and ashore are two new favourites.

5. going out walking with jason and ted in the evenings, when jase gets home from work. god bless these long summer evenings.

6. finally finding a recipe for porridge that i actually like! i’ve tried to like porridge for such a long time, and adding frozen berries to it has finally won me over.

7. wearing mint green nail varnish. maybelline ‘mint for life’ is my current favourite, but i’ve got my eye on essie ‘first timer’!

8. managing to make a gif on photoshop with only minimal help from jason! it’s always a proud moment for me when i accomplish something new on photoshop without having to call on my own personal tech support! ;)

9. going to see the great gatsby with my mum and sister at the beginning of the week! i loved the film (baz luhrman is one of my favourite directors) but am still not a fan of the story itself.  i just don’t ever find myself caring about the characters. anyone else feel the same?
10. meeting lovely people whilst out walking with ted. having a dog has made me come out of my shell and be more confident meeting and talking to new people, and i’m glad of that :)

tell me, what’s made you happy this week? :)

p.s. anyone else doing an ‘it’s only four days until payday’ happy dance? i most definitely am! it’s been a long old month ;)

…to watch this video. it’s about a boy who was diagnosed with cancer at the age of 14, and strove during the last few years of his life to make as many people happy as possible. he passed away only a couple of days ago.
so beautiful. so sad. so inspiring.

it’s the sort of video that’ll restore your faith in humanity, after the horrifying events that took place in london yesterday.

p.s. this isn’t one to watch at your office desk, because you’ll cry your heart out. x

yesterday on our morning walk, ted and i set about exploring the bluebell woods that lie a couple of villages away from home. i’d not been walking in those woods for about a decade. there’s been lots of tree felling there recently, but i was surprised at how familiar it all felt. the bluebells were out in all their glory, and we didn’t see another soul the whole time we were there.
i think it’s going to be my new favourite place to walk.
i just need to break teddy out of his habit of dive-bombing puddles, because yesterday he leapt into a huge one and sent a wave of water over my legs and back. my legs were freezing cold for the entire walk, and i looked like i’d had a dreadful accident. not my finest hour.

other things that happened yesterday: we ran out of milk, and i spent the entire day putting off a trip to the shops because i was so comfy wearing jason’s pj bottoms and didn’t want to get changed. teddy chewed a corner of the doorframe and got the telling off of a lifetime. i ate half a loaf of bread with boursin for lunch (boursin is the best, isn’t it?). and jason came home early from work, so we all went up to the woods (our local forest, this time) for an evening stroll.
how did you spend your tuesday? :)
