10 things that’ve made me happy this week…

1. seeing a deer in the woods! i was so excited, i got goosebumps all over. anyone else get totally overexcited when they come across wildlife whilst out walking? i just wish teddy hadn’t gone charging through the undergrowth towards it and scared it away, because it was so peaceful to stand there watching it moseying about. made my day!

2. baking banana bread with overripe bananas. using up ingredients before they go off makes me feel so ‘make do and mend’! ;)

3. watching old episodes of the inbetweeners. i’d forgotten how hilarious it is!

4. discovering new blogs. marshalls abroad and ashore are two new favourites.

5. going out walking with jason and ted in the evenings, when jase gets home from work. god bless these long summer evenings.

6. finally finding a recipe for porridge that i actually like! i’ve tried to like porridge for such a long time, and adding frozen berries to it has finally won me over.

7. wearing mint green nail varnish. maybelline ‘mint for life’ is my current favourite, but i’ve got my eye on essie ‘first timer’!

8. managing to make a gif on photoshop with only minimal help from jason! it’s always a proud moment for me when i accomplish something new on photoshop without having to call on my own personal tech support! ;)

9. going to see the great gatsby with my mum and sister at the beginning of the week! i loved the film (baz luhrman is one of my favourite directors) but am still not a fan of the story itself.  i just don’t ever find myself caring about the characters. anyone else feel the same?
10. meeting lovely people whilst out walking with ted. having a dog has made me come out of my shell and be more confident meeting and talking to new people, and i’m glad of that :)

tell me, what’s made you happy this week? :)

p.s. anyone else doing an ‘it’s only four days until payday’ happy dance? i most definitely am! it’s been a long old month ;)

I love seeing random wildlife too! Once my husband and I went on a walk and a couple of baby bunnies hopped right in front of us… they disappeared quickly but we managed to sneak a few snapshots in :) Mmm porridge with frozen berries sounds delicious!

Have you read the book of The Great Gatsby? I think that some of the point is how little you care about the characters, if that makes any sense, so maybe that didn’t come through in the movie? Although it could also just be that it’s not your kinda story! I’ve heard so many different opinions of the movie, I’m looking forward to deciding for myself!

I was about to say what Sarah said. I don’t think you’re meant to care about the characters, in fact I think Fitzgerald is setting them to be vacuous and empty for you to dislike. I suppose it’s all in what you take from it. I wasnt going to go and see it because it’s one of my favourite books but I think I’m going to have to… xx

You saw a deer?!! Amazing! That reminds me of the Friends episode when Ross and Emily go off for a weekend away and see a deer eating fruit from the orchard. Love it!

Summer evenings? Weather in your part of england is obviously much different to my part, it’s blimmin freezing here and we’ve had torrential rain on and off all week

As for The Great Gatsby, I care very deeply about the characters, worryingly so in fact. I don’t really agree with the commenters above saying you’re not really supposed to care – while I think Daisy was definitely set up in the book to be empty and very 2 dimensional, I think Nick and Gatsby are meant to strike a chord. They did with me anyway. The Gatsby character himself absolutely breaks my heart haha x

(I don’t really have any strong feelings about any of the other characters though)

I often see deer in our yard here in NJ, but no matter how often I do, I still grab a camera and run to the window! I just wish they would stop eating all of our bushes ;) I also love to save food from the trash can…just froze four bananas to use in smoothies.

I feel exactly about you and the GG story! I didn’t think any of them were likeable – esp Daisy. I love Baz L too and the film was visually stunning if a little dizzying in parts but the story itself I thought was a little dull

Hey Rosie, thanks for leaving me such a sweet note on my blog. I saw The Great Gatsby this week and I really liked it. I get what you mean about the characters, though. Daisie kind of sucks big time ;) Stoked to check out your blog! What a peaceful place!

If I saw a deer I think I’d freeze in shock! Then the Pugs would probably scare it off :(

I have porridge every morning with frozen berries and a bit of honey. Delish! x

I love seeing wildlife! Deer always come into my dad’s garden so he tries to scare them off with lights etc- makes me so sad!! I love the story of The Great Gatsby, but never care about the characters- maybe that’s sort of the point though?! No idea, that’s me trying to be interpretative haha!! xx
