over the past few weeks/months/years i’ve moaned and groaned endlessly about university…

but now that i’m in my final ever week of classes and practical assessments, the nostalgic side of me is taking over.

i’m feeling pretty sad about saying goodbye to this place…

to this beautiful old building with the bell that chimes on the hour, the handsome library, my sweet classmates, and the sense of camaraderie between us all.
i guess it’s just hard to say goodbye to the chapter of my life entitled ‘education’, you know?

monday: orecchiette carbonara
wednesday: lasagne
friday: balsamic chicken, roasted potatoes and carrot salad (but we ate it before i even thought to take a photo!)
my favourite? carbonara. jason’s favourite? chicken pie (i think it was his favourite because i put a little pastry ‘j’ on it!) on the menu for this week? sausage casserole, pasta with broccoli and pine nuts, and lamb steaks with roasted vegetables.
what’s on your meal plan for this week?

this sunday…
- my daffodils finally gave up the ghost, but i didn’t mind too much since these lisianthus were ready to take their place.
- we did some silly living room ‘ice skating’, whilst watching figure skating on the telly. i pranced about, and it wound teddy up so much he ended up dangling off my scarf!
- i spent the afternoon rehearsing, and jason spent the afternoon not doing chores and watching the grand prix instead. rehearsing on a sunday could be a complete chore, but thankfully i’m working with the loveliest bunch and so it’s just a few straight hours of laughter :)
- i ate two breakfasts, because that’s what sunday mornings are for.
- we had leftover for lasagne for dinner. why is lasagne so much better on the second day?
- i discovered rachel’s gorgeous food blog, and started longing for a trip to italy. cousin emily’s wedding in sorrento this summer can’t come soon enough!
- poor teddy coughed and coughed, and a call to the vet confirmed the poor lamb has kennel cough :( i’ll be picking up some antibiotics for him tomorrow, so he should be better in no time.
how was your sunday? :)

yesterday afternoon, jason and i braved the rain (it was torrential!) and journeyed to guildford for lunch with my family at bill’s. we got together to celebrate the life of my beautiful grandma, since yesterday marked the one year anniversary of her passing. it’s hard to contemplate that an entire year has gone by since she left our lives.
during those first few awful months after we lost her, i used to feel so resentful whenever people told me that time would heal, and things would get easier. i thought ‘how can you say that? i don’t want things to get easier, i don’t want to get used to living in a world where i haven’t got a grandma, i don’t want to forget.’ but as the days and weeks and months plodded on, i realised that no matter how hard i dug my heels in and yearned for the past i was already living in a world without my grandma, and the last thing she’d want is for me to missing my present, for the sake of yesterday.
so yesterday afternoon there were no tears, and instead, there was laughter, and food, and many a happy memory recounted :) we love you grandma. yesterday, today, and always. x

below: bill’s halloumi and houmous burger.
below: my oh so beautiful ma.

below: we wound up comparing handwriting. why? who knows! but we learnt that my handwriting is the most childish (cool), cesca’s is the same as mum’s, and emily doesn’t like writing ‘w’s.
