when we were up at the lake earlier in the week, ted decided to take on a pair of swans. and by take on, i mean that he charged at them with reckless abandon, decided better of it when they puffed up their wings and looked mad, and then pretended he’d been aiming for the much less scary mallards all along. we honestly have been trying to teach him manners, but it’s just not going too well at the moment…those gundog instincts are hard to override, you know?
i know i keep going on about it, but i did so enjoy walking round the lake the other day. the local heath where we like to walk gets shut off during the summer months to protect nesting birds, so i think i’m going to start bringing ted to the lake for his daily walk instead. right now i’m trying to convince jase to do another full lap with me before he goes back to work on tuesday. he got bored of walking after about the third mile the other day though, so i’m not holding out much hope…

on friday, jase and i realised that we hadn’t bought a single easter egg yet this year. ‘oh well’, we said to each other, ‘there’re always so many left over in the shops after easter, we won’t have any trouble finding some with two days still to go!’ but it turns out, we couldn’t be more wrong. numerous fruitless trips to local supermarkets, and our families are getting measly bags of percy pigs this year. sorry in advance, mum! though actually, my ma did have to rebuy my easter egg this year because she ate the first one, so maybe it’s easter karma? ;)
the shopping trip wasn’t a total waste though, because i discovered my new favourite drink at starbucks (hello four-hundred-calorie-but-totally-worth-it mocha frap!), wore some new summer clothes in defiance of the chilly weather, and we bought a fancy new clock for the kitchen!

in other news, jase and i ate the loveliest dinner on good friday. we’re so often guilty of passing up proper dinner; proper sitting at the table dinner, for meals eaten curled up on the sofa with plates balanced precariously on our knees. but on friday i cooked a roast chicken, and since cooking roasts always makes me feel like a competent grown up (anyone else too?) we ate our meal at our little dining table. it felt so lovely and civilised, so we’re making it our new month’s resolution to only have sofasuppers on lazy friday nights.

happy easter sunday, everyone!

image credit: originally by chechu k.cora. doesn’t it make you long for summer?

1. having jase at home for the past few days. he’s walked ted countless times, brought me tea whilst i work, and made the house all spick and span. i’m so grateful for his help :)

2. finishing essays, and ticking them off my to-do list. it’s the most satisfying feeling!

3. the lovely librarian at my local library who helped me track down obscure books for my dissertation this week. she made me feel like matilda ;)

4. making plans for what i’m going to do with my little blog, once all my university work is done :)

5. walking all the way round virginia water lake with teddy and jase on tuesday. it was so nice to spot signs of spring (fingers crossed it’s on its way for real this time!) and enjoy the crisp weather.

6. waking up to sunshine! i’d forgotten how lovely it is to open the curtains to blue sky and clouds, instead of a sea of grey.

7. the sweet little dog who sits so patiently by my side whilst i work during the day.

8. finding my camera lens cap! it’s the second one i’ve lost and then found again in two weeks. there must be a nicer way to attach it to my camera than with that naff string though, right?

9. looking forward to doing an easter egg hunt this weekend. jase made me one the first year we got together, so now it’s a silly annual tradition! memorable egg-hiding places have been in the letter box, on top of the shower head, and in the tumble dryer…

10. making plans for the summer. on my list so far? learn how to make ice cream, go strawberry picking, and visit the zoo!

what’s made you happy this week?

the other night, jason said to me ‘do you fancy going on more dates?’

i replied….ummmm, yeah!

so earlier in the week, jase and i went for a late night frappuccino date.

sometimes we find ourselves getting caught up in daily routines, and feel like we don’t make time to really talk to one another. so on our date, that’s exactly what we did…

…until the part of us that just can’t help getting competitive took over, and we ended up playing a game called ‘test rosie’s abysmal maths skills’… so that picture above is my ‘thinking hard’ face. but seriously, who actually understands how to calculate speed anyway?

i found this video from the pilobulus dance theater company whilst trawling facebook last week, and it’s nothing short of brilliant
even jason was wowed, and he’s normally very skeptical of the dance pieces i make him watch ;)

don’t you think it’s just amazing?
