The weekend where we ate a lot.

11.02
so, did you know that the rugby six nations tournament is on at the moment? well, it is. and that means that our weekend has been based around an awful lot of jason + sofa + sky sports time. i’ve not minded though, because it’s meant that there’s been a lot of rosie + bubble bath + reading harry potter time, whilst jason’s been glued to the television ;)

aside from all this laziness, we’ve managed to fit in a fair few (mainly food related) activities into our weekend. we took a trip up to the big lake with ted on saturday morning, and got chilled to the bone by the rain and sleet that fell all weekend long. when we got home, we ate the best-known antidote to frosty weather- poutine! it’s a dish we were introduced to by jason’s sister and brother in law during our trip to canada a couple of years ago- chips, served with cheese and a ladleful of thick, meaty gravy. poutine, alongside tim horton’s, is the reason our next visit to canada (which we’re saving our pennies for) will be preceded by a serious pre-holiday diet! ;)

on saturday evening, jason and i joined my ma, sister, and godparents for dinner at our favourite rooftop restaurant, thai terrace. i’m no asian food aficionado, but since it’s our third visit in about six weeks they must be doing something right!

between us, jason and i ate spring rolls, duck in a honey-tamarind sauce, thai green curry, egg fried noodles, and jasmine rice. yum! even my notoriously fussy little sis enjoyed her meal! i had the loveliest time with francesca on saturday. she’s grown up so much in the past couple of months- when did that little curly haired toddler turn into a glamorous teen?! she’ll be overtaking me in height any day now too, and i am not impressed!

how did you spend your saturday and sunday? :)

Chips cheese and gravy is a traditional dish here which usually follows a night on the tiles. I had no idea it had such a fancy name! xx

As a Canadian, it is always so strange when I realize that poutine isn’t found everywhere! But I totally understand your appeal to it, I love it!

I know it is rather sad to admit it but I am a Canadian and I have never tried poutine. I don’t know what it is about poutine but it freaks me out. Maybe one day I will actually work up the courage to try it.

Who knew chips, cheese and gravy was an actual ‘thing’, as in it’s actually got a special name? Here was me thinking it was just a combo thrown together by a greedy Brit with a hangover. I must agree though, it’s yummy, haven’t had it in such a long time!

Ah I used to live in Toronto and Tim Hortons and poutine are my favourite! Sometimes I reckon it’s worth the airfare just for those…right?! Oh and the maple syrup… :)
