holding hands…
whilst driving home late at night after a couple of days away…
talking about our past, our future, and how lucky we are…
 just magic.
i love him, so much.

yesterday jase, teddy and i drove…and drove…and kept on driving until we reached jason’s dad’s house in lincolnshire. we were so proud of how our little man handled the journey- it was the longest he’s been on since the day we brought him home, and he behaved impeccably! ted’s in his element up here- trekking across the fens, splashing through flooded fields, and chasing crows away from the farmer’s crops. oh that helpful dog!
we’re all settling into a nice little routine of country walks, cooked breakfasts, naps on the sofa and and pyjamas till noon. in fact, i sort of don’t want to go back home, since going home means i have to tidy our messy house and write an essay all about shakespeare’s problem plays. yuck.
but i won’t think about that now, since there’s a cup of tea calling my name, and at least two more delicious meals to eat our way through before we need to pack up the car, and head back to reality.

have you all returned to work yet, my lovely readers, or are you enjoying a last couple of days of holiday? :)

p.s you can also find me over on the lovely tj’s blog today, answering a few questions about my little blog. go take a look!

christmas in our house has been a quiet affair this year, and nothing like we planned at all. i came down with a nasty flu bug on christmas eve, and spent the whole day in bed. since initially we weren’t sure if i had noro virus and worried we might all be contagious, my mum, jason and i traded in a big family christmas at jason’s mum’s for a day of pjs, hot water bottles and paracetamol. we watched lots of telly, ate the beef wellington we had planned for christmas eve (i managed a few delicious bites!) and played a game of ‘boys vs. girls’ quiz in the evening. it was probably the least conventional christmas we’ve ever had, but i kinda liked the peacefulness of it. a million thank yous to my mama and jason for being the most patient nurses, and to ted for all the comforting puppy kisses!
how was your christmas? :)

p.s. remember the advent calendar game jason and i were playing? i won! jase officially owes me one big bar of chocolate!

i woke up at 5am on the morning of my birthday. i did the same the year before. and the year before that, too. it’s pretty much compulsory to wake up at silly o’clock on your birthday though, right? last year i tried to convince jase to wake up and let me open presents, but he wasn’t having any of it. some people, hey?
anyway, my 22nd birthday has been just peachy :) teddy helped me open my presents at the more *grown up* hour of 11am (just look at his sweet face!) and then we all (apart from ted) headed out for brunch in town. all those morning workouts i did last week were totally working up to today, so i brunched like a pro and ate two full courses. yum.
instead of a proper birthday cake, i asked my ma to make my grandma’s signature ‘birthday/christmas/easter and all the days in between’ treat, rice crispy cakes! they tasted just as though they’d come from the tiny kitchen in my grandma’s cottage, and made my birthday so so special. thank you, ma.
