1. receiving letters from jason’s brother, who’s currently serving in afghanistan. in his letter to jase he described an awful situation he’d had to deal with a few days ago, and just before it wrote ‘please don’t let rosie read this next bit. it’s not something she should have to hear.’ it touched my heart. jason’s mum raised her sons to be gentlemen.

2. cracking on with my christmas shopping! is there anything more happy-making than putting together little bundles of gifts for your family? i don’t think so!

3. the shifty look ted gets when he’s chewing on his favourite bone. he doesn’t want me to take it away, so tucks himself into a tiny corner to try and hide it!

4. feeling like an essay powerhouse yesterday afternoon! granted i only wrote 550 words, but i did it in one sitting! and that, for a member of the ‘write twenty words then spend an hour on twitter’ brigade, is an achievement…

5. watching ted’s ongoing love affair with his puppyfriend sadie at the park. i think he’ll be asking her out any day now…

6. maybe, hopefully, potentially getting a new car tomorrow! fingers crossed it’s still available, because it’s perfect! (and double fingers crossed my current car survives the journey up there to get it!)

7. seeing the pond freeze over for the first time this winter. i’d forgotten how pretty the ice looks :)

8. catching up on nat’s beautiful blog. it really is one of my absolute favourites.

9. rewarding yesterday’s essay success with a trip to our lovely local garden centre. only next time, remind me not to head out in the middle of rush hour. please?

10. being on time for all my university classes this week! if someone wanted to send me over a congratulatory medal or something, that’d be okay…

what’s made you happy this week? :)

i’d like to turn into one of those women who returns home at the end of the day looking as put-together, unflustered and chic as they did when they left home in the morning.
jason’s already got it down to a fine art, apart from the whole ‘being a woman’ bit, of course. when he goes off to work in the morning his shirt is crisp, his hair is tidy, and he looks calm and collected.
when he returns home from work, his shirt is still crisp, his hair is still tidy, and he still looks calm and collected!
it’s just not fair! can anyone share the secret please?

dear jason…your taste in television is usually amazing (as much as it pains me to admit) but please don’t try and make me watch a documentary about the history of the toilet ever again. i’m serious.
dear waitrose…if i buy one more batch of chicken from you that goes off before its use by date i’m going to abandon ship and start shopping in sainsburys.
p.s. actually, i didn’t mean it. i would never leave you.
dear childhood…i revisited you last night by watching the queen’s nose on youtube. it was awesome beyond words.
dear gap…it’s mean to tempt me with a 25% off code just before christmas. i’m on a spending ban, remember?
dear teddy…the phrase is ‘what goes in must come out’, not ‘what comes out must go back in‘. alright?!
dear essie…your nail varnish really is incredible. why didn’t i realise this before i bought so much model’s own polish?
dear vacuum cleaner…sorry you’ve been chronically overworked since we got the pup. and sorry he barks and growls at you whenever you’re on. he isn’t your biggest fan.
dear grandma…yesterday i ate an ‘elevenses’ snack of sliced apple and cheese, just like we used to when i was small. it was just as delicious as i remember, and brought back many happy memories of days spent with you :)
