1. repeating over and over the mantra ‘fortune favours the brave’ during scary moments of the past week :)

2. being home with my handsome man and tiny alfie.

3. the new autumnal copy of waitrose food magazine, hurray!

4. being introduced to the wonderful blog ‘nat the fat rat’ by my lovely lovely readers! nat’s blog is just delightful, and she comes across as such a kind soul.

5. the weather getting chillier and stormier by the day!

6. listening to jason howl with laughter at keith lemon’s ‘celebrity juice’! the programme itself does make me chuckle, but seeing jase laugh until he has tears in his eyes is the best!

7. seeing both my best friends in the same week! this happens once in a blue moon, and it’s always so lovely :)

8. also, my grace is going to be commuting to university next year (just like i do!) and so that means we’ll be living about two minutes away from one another all year…i sense this may have a negative impact on our university work ;)

9. managing to get through the summer on an insanely reduced ‘i’ve run out of student finance money’ budget! yay! the first studenty payday for this academic year is dangling before me like a carrot now ;) roll on september 24th!

10. coming home from holiday on saturday to find that my anniversary flowers from the previous week were still alive, well and scenting the house beautifully! (also, coming home to find that jason had emptied the fridge of all food, and filled it with beer instead made me laugh a lot! boys, tut tut ;)

this week’s happy photo shows how overexcited i was to be reunited with jase on saturday afternoon ;) i jumped into his arms so hard i nearly winded him!
tell me, what’s made you happy this week? :)

jason and i had an absolute stinker of a day yesterday. the absolute worst. an important part of the project jase has been working on has fallen through, and although he’s already picked himself up, dusted off and started to find a different path, it’s a bit of a blow. we’ve pulled together though, and i’m so proud of the tenacity of my man.
to cheer ourselves up, we’ve been listening to this hilarious interview with two sisters who decided to play hairdresser :) their accents are just about the cutest things ever, and every single thing they say is laugh out loud funny!
i hope it brightens up your day as much as it brightened ours! :D
p.s. i found this interview via the wonderful naomi of the rockstar diaries, and am very glad i did :)

i’ve always loved the idea of sitting down on a sunday afternoon, and writing a little list of all the meals i plan to cook during the coming week. it always seems like such a lovely, old fashioned sort of ritual and one that i’m determined to begin :) i wrote this week’s meal plan on sunday evening, and jason and i took it with us to waitrose on bank holiday monday. shopping with a clear idea of the ingredients i needed for the week made the hugest difference to our food bill, and i’m thrilled! i’ve decided that i’m going to share my little meal plans here, both as a way to help me keep to my resolution and to build a little online bank of foodie inspiration!
i’d so love to hear from you too- what’s on your meal plan this week? :)

after a couple of days of exploring our local town and soaking up the sunshine in lake garda, my ma and i decided to do some exploring! ma convinced me to take a cable car about a zillion metres up the side of a mountain, and although i did protest loudly from start to finish (i’m not the greatest fan of heights!) the view was totally worth it! it was pretty peaceful up there, what with the sound of the bells round the cows’ necks, blue butterflies flitting about and the clear mountain air. you’d probably still have to pay me good money to go in a cable car again though- that on top of two flights this holiday was too much for this scaredy cat ;)
on our last day in italy, we took a paddle boat up to the very north of the lake to visit the town of riva. riva is much larger and more city-like than other towns round the lake, and was so incredibly airy and pristine. the town squares were full of little market stalls, and had i not already purchased some fancy caramel scented soap i’d have bought the sweet vanilla cat soap pictured below in a heartbeat!
all in all, my holiday with my ma was pretty perfect :) our hotel rooms were right opposite one another, and pottering back and forth between the two whilst we got ready each evening made it feel like we were on a week long sleepover! so, so fun :) thanks, beautiful mum, for an absolutely wonderful week. i love you one hell of a lot!
p.s. in case anyone was worried, jason managed to survive the full week whilst i was away ;) he lived on frozen pizzas, fish fingers and oven chips, and yet still managed to lose weight!? how that’s possible,  i will never understand!
